On the Job Experience
I work as a family therapist in private practice at the Chicago Center for Relationship counseling with couples with communication and/or infidelity issues, mother/daughter duos and families with parenting concerns, and young adult individuals working through anxiety, depression or trauma and seeking identity and relationship satisfaction. This is my calling and my passion, and every day at work I learn something new from my clients as well as feel fulfilled in my mission to help people help themselves.
I also work an overnight crisis therapist at Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) with children under 21 with Medicaid insurance, responding to crisis situations and recommending/facilitating treatment. Working in the hectic world of crisis/community mental health at C4 has taught me the beauty in organized chaos, how to accept imperfection, that the more you try to plan the less likely life is to go accordingly, and how to keep a lightness of spirit when guiding people through their darkest moments.
In addition, I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor of Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy students at the Family Institute at Northwestern, where I attended school and completed my internship. My students keep me sharp, giving me opportunities to learn through them and keep up with my knowledge.
Lastly, I am an accounting manager at a private practice called Focht Family Practice. This has helped me get an inside look at billing and insurance companies that has been invaluable to my understanding of healthcare and finances.
I have attended my own therapy, which I feel is the final piece that pulls together my understanding of not only how to do therapy, but also what it's like to be a client.
In the past I have worked at two residential eating disorder clinics and interned at two state mental institutions. As an undergraduate I volunteered and later worked at the 2-1-1 Hotline and Suicide Prevention Lifeline. I am grateful to have these diverse experiences, as I believe it makes me a flexible, well-rounded therapist.
